\n1. Turn off and unplug the grinder
\n2. Remove the wheel cover by loosening the screws.
\n3. To prevent wheel rotation, push a wood wedge between the grinding wheel
\nand the guard.
\n4. Loosen the wheel nut in a clockwise direction for the left side and a
\ncounterclockwise direction for the right side.
\n5. Remove the outer flange and grinding wheel.
\n6. To install a new grinding wheel, reverse the above procedure.
\nNOTE: Be sure the grinding wheel and outer flange are properly seated on the
\nspindle shaft.
\nWORKLIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT (Fig.10)
\nNOTE: Follow these instructions to
\nchange a burnt out bulb.
\n1. Turn off and unplug the grinder
\n2. Remove the two Phillips head
\nscrews from the top of worklight
\nhousing.
\n3. Remove worklignt housing.
\n4. While gently pushing in bulb, turn
\nbulb to left to release.
\n5. Place new bulb into bulb
\nreceptacle and gently push in
\nwhile turning to the right until bulb is fully seated.
\n6. Reinstall the worklight housing using the two Phillips head screws.
\nNOTE: To avoid the risk of fire, always use a BA15S P21W\/12V bulb.

\n<\/ WEAR PROPER APPAREL Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings,
\nbracelets, or other jewelry which may get caught in moving parts. Nonslip
\nfootwear is recommended. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
\nV ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES. Also use face or dust mask if cutting
\noperation is dusty. Everyday eyeglasses only have impact resistant lenses,
\nthey are NOT safety glasses.
\n*\/ SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold work when practical. It\u2019s safer
\nthan using your hand and it frees both hands to operate tool.
\n<\/ DON\u2019T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
\n<\/ MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for best and
\nsafest performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing
\naccessories.
\n+\/ DISCONNECT TOOLS. When not in use, before servicing, or when changing
\nattachments, grinding wheels, etc., all tools should be disconnected.
\n\u2022J REDUCE THE RISK OF UNINTENTIONAL STARTING. Be sure switch is off
\nwhen plugging in any tool.
\n*\/ NEVER STAND ON TOOL. Serious injury could occur if the tool is tipped or if
\nthe cutting tool is unintentionally contacted.
\nS CHECK DAMAGED PARTS. Before further use of the tool, a guard or other
\npart that is damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will
\noperate properly and perform its intended function-check for alignment of
\nmoving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any
\nother conditions that may affect its operation, A guard or other part that is
\ndamaged should be properly repaired or replaced.
\n\u2022\/ PROTECT YOUR LUNGS. Wear a face or dust mask if the grinding operation is
\ndusty.
\n\u00ab\u2713 PROTECT HEARING. Wear hearing protection during extended periods of
\noperation.
\nS DO NOT ABUSE’ CORD. Never yank cord to disconnect from receptacle. Keep
\ncord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
\nINSPECT TOOL ICORDS PERIODICALLY. If damaged, have the cord repaired by
\na qualified servi ce technician at an authorized service facility. The conductor
\nwith insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without yellow

\nstripes is the equipment-grounding conductor. If repair or replacement of the
\nelectric cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the equipment-grounding
\nconductor to a live terminal. Repair or replace a damaged or worn cord
\nimmediately. Stay constantly aware of cord location and keep it well away
\nfrom the rotating grinding wheels.
\nDIRECTION OF FEED. Feed work into a blade or cutter against the direction
\nof rotation of the blade or cutter only.
\nV NEVER LEAVE TOOL RUNNING UNAHENDED. TURN POWER OFF. Don\u2019t leave
\ntool until it comes to a complete stop.
\n<\/ INSPECT EXTENSION CORDS PERIODICALLY and replace if damaged.
\n*\/ DO NOT USE TOOL IF SWITCH DOES NOT TURN IT ON AND OFF. Have
\ndefective switches replaced by an authorized service center.
\n*\u2713 USE ONLY CORRECT WHEELS. Do not use wheels with incorrect size holes.
\nNever use wheel washers or wheel bolts that are defective or incorrect. The
\nmaximum wheel capacity of your grinder is 8in.
\n*\/ NEVER TOUCH WHEEL or other moving parts during use.
\n<\/ DO NOT OPERATE A TOOL WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS,
\nALCOHOL, OR ANY MEDICATION.
\nWHEN SERVICING use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other
\nparts may create a hazard or cause product damage.
\nUSE ONLY RECOMMENDED ACCESSORIES listed in this manual or
\naddendums. Use of accessories that are not listed may cause the risk of
\npersonal injury. Instructions for safe use of accessories are included with the
\naccessory.
\n<\/ DOUBLE CHECK ALL SETUPS. Make sure wheel is tight and not making
\ncontact with workpiece before connecting to power supply.
\nSPECIFIC SAFETY RULES FOR BENCH GRINDER
\n\u00ab\/ NEVER reach to pick up a workpiece, a piece of scrap, or anything else that
\nis in or near the grinding path of the wheel.
\nV AVOID AWKWARD OPERATIONS AND HAND POSITIONS where a sudden
\nslip could cause your hand to move into the wheel. Always make sure you
\nhave good balance.
\n5
\nBefore each use, inspect the grinder, switch and cord for damage. Check for
\ndamaged, missing, or worn parts. Check for loose screws, misalignment or
\nbinding of moving parts, or any other conditions that may affect the operation.
\nIf abnormal vibration or noise occurs, turn the tool off immediately and have the
\nproblem corrected before further use.
\nBefore cleaning or performing any maintenance, the tool should be unplugged
\nfrom the power supply. Using compressed air may be the most effective
\ncleaning method. Always wear safety goggles when cleaning tools with
\ncompressed air.
\nA WARNING: Do not let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating
\noil, etc., come in contact with plastic parts. They contain chemicals that
\ncan damage, weaken or destroy plastic.
\nA WARNING’.When servicing use only identical replacement parts. Use of any
\nother parts rtiay create a hazard or cause product damage.
\nA WARNING:Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer
\nfor the model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous
\nwhen used on another tool.
\nA WARNING:Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly
\nmaintained tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are
\neasier to control.
\nA WARNING:Check extension cords before each use. If damaged, replace immediately.
\nNever use tool with a damaged cord.
\nA WARNiNG:To ensure safety and reliability, all repairs should be performed by
\na qualified service technician.
\nWHEEL REPLACEMENT (Fig.9)
\nIf you must replace a grinding wheel, be sure to obtain one with a safe rated
\nspeed at least as high as the \u201cno load speed\u201d RPM marked on the data plate of
\nthe grinder and which is marked to comply with ANSI B7.1,

\nON\/OFF SWITCH (Fig.7)
\nYour bench grinder is equipped with
\na switch that has a built-in locking
\nfeature. This feature is intended to
\nprevent unauthorized and possible
\nhazardous use by children and
\nothers.
\nTO TURN YOUR BENCH GRINDER ON:
\nWith the switch key inserted into the
\nswitch, lift the switch button to turn
\nON.
\nTO TURN YOUR BENCH GRINDER OFF:
\nPress the switch button down to turn
\nOFF.
\nTO LOCK YOUR BENCH GRINDER:
\nWith the grinder turned OFF, pull the
\nswitch key from the switch and store
\nin a safe, secure location.
\nWORKLIGHT SWITCH(Fig.7)
\nYour bench grinder is equipped with
\na separate On\/Off switch for lights.
\nSHARPENING TWIST DRILL BITS
\n(Fig-8)
\nDrill bits are best sharpened on a
\nsharpening jig (not included),but some
\nsharpening can be done on your
\nbench grinder. Begin on one side of
\nthe point at the existing angle, twist
\nthe bit while maintaining contact with
\nthe grinding surface. Sharpen only the tip.
\nThis technique requires considerable practice, so take your time and make a
\nfew \u201cdry runs\u201d first with the grinder off. Be sure to maintain the original cutting
\nedge angle as this is important to the efficiency of your bits. One tool rest has
\na V-groove angled to fit 118\u00b0 drill bits.
\nSHARPENING CHISELS AND SCREWDRIVER BLADES
\nWhen sharpening chisels and screwdrivers, the tool rest should support the
\nblade at the correct angle against the wheel.
\n13
\n+\/ NEVER stand or have any part of your body in line with the path of the wheel.
\ns\/ DO NOT TURN MOTOR SWITCH ON AND OFF RAPIDLY. This could cause the
\nwheel to loosen and could create a hazard. Should this ever occur, stand
\nclear and allow the wheel to come to a complete stop. Disconnect your
\ngrinder from the power supply and securely retighten the wheel nut.
\nS USE ONLY FLANGES furnished with this bench grinder.
\ns\/ IF ANY PART OF THIS GRINDER IS MISSING or should break, bend, or fail in
\nany way, or should any electrical component fail to perform properly, shut off
\nthe power switch, remove the machine plug from the power source and have
\ndamaged, missing, or failed parts replaced before resuming operation.
\nV MAKE SURE THE GRINDER IS SECURELY MOUNTED as described in the
\noperating instructions before connecting the tool to a power supply.
\n<y DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN WHEEL NUT. Excessive tightening can cause the
\nwheel to crack during operation.
\n<\/ ALWAYS USE THE GRINDER\u2019S WHEEL GUARDS AND SAFETY SHIELDS.
\nV INSPECT GRINDING WHEEL for visible defects. Check the wheel for fissures
\nand cracks, and test for normal operation prior to use. Replace cracked
\nwheel immediately.
\nADJUST distance between wheel and tool rest to maintain 1\/16 in. or less
\nseparation as the diameter of the wheel decreases with use. The value of
\nseparation used in the marking is to be the separation recommended by the
\nmanufacturer but shall not be more than 1\/8 in.
\nV ALWAYS EASE THE WORKPIECE AGAINST ABRASIVE WHEEL when starting
\nto grind. A harsh impact can break the wheel. Use light pressure when
\nstarting to grind; too much pressure on a cold wheel can cause the wheel to
\ncrack.
\n*\/ NEVER START THE GRINDER when the wheel is in contact with the
\nworkpiece.
\n\u00ab\u2713 SECURE WORK. Always hold workpiece firmly against the tool rest.
\nS DO NOT USE THE BENCH GRINDER if the flange nut or clamp nut is missing
\nor if the spindle shaft is bent.
\nV FREQUENTLY clean grinding dust from beneath grinder.

\nAwARNING: Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling,
\nand other construction activities contains chemicals known to cause
\ncancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these
\nchemicals are:
\n\u2022 Lead from lead-based paints,
\n\u2022 Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products, and
\n\u2022 Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated lumber.
\nYour risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type
\nof work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated
\narea, and work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks that
\nare specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.
\nEXTENSION CORDS
\nUse only 3-wire extension cords that have 3-prong grounding plugs and
\n3-pole receptacles that accept the tool\u2019s plug. When using a power tool at a
\nconsiderable distance from the power source, use an extension cord heavy
\nenough to carry the current that the tool will draw. An undersized extension
\ncord will cause a drop in line voltage, resulting in a loss of power and causing
\nthe motor to overheat. Use the chart provided below to determine the minimum
\nwire size required in an extension cord. Only round jacketed cords listed by
\nUnderwriter\u2019s Laboratories (UL) should be used.

\nWhen tool is used outdoors, use an extension cord that is designed for outdoor
\nuse. This is indicated by the letters \u201cWA\u201d on the cord\u2019s jacket.
\nBefore using an extension cord, inspect it for loose or exposed wires and cut or
\nworn insulation.

\n4. Place the machine on the workbench and insert a bolt with a washer
\nthrough the mounting holes in the base into each of the holes drilled in the
\nworkbench. Make sure the protruding length X (see figure) is at least 5\/8″
\nfor each of the bolts used.
\n5. Place a nut on each of the bolts and securely tighten the nuts.
\nJLWARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you careless. Remember
\nthat a careless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict serious injury.
\nI WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields
\nwhen operating power tools. Failure to do so could result in objects being
\nthrown into your eyes resulting in possible serious injury.
\nA WARNING: Do not use any attachments or accessories not recommended
\nby the manufacturer of this tool. The use of attachments or accessories not
\nrecommended can result in serious personal injury.
\nBASIC OPERATION
\nTo be efficient and work as designed, your tools should be kept sharp. Dull tools
\ncan cause accidents. Bench Grinders are ideal for sharpening tools such as
\nchisels, planer blades, scissors, etc., and for removing rust or corrosion.
\nAwARNING: Never sharpen or grind anything made of aluminum, brass, or
\ncopper.
\nGrinders remove material rapidly, so pressure is the key to efficient grinding.
\nThe proper way to sharpen a tool and avoid overheating is:
\n1. Keep the object in constant motion, moving it at an even pace.
\n2. Never force a tool against the grinding wheel.
\n3. Keep the tool cool by using either the coolant tray or a pan of water.
\n4. The grinding wheel should rotate \u201cinto” the object being sharpened.
\nNOTE: Excessive pressure may damage the tool, cause the motor to overheat,
\nand prematurely wear down the grinding wheel.
\nA WARNING: Excessive pressure on a cold wheel may cause the wheel to
\ncrack.
\nUSING COOLANT TRAY (Fig.7)
\nThe built-in coolant tray allows you to cool overheated workpieces. Simply pull
\nout the tray and fill with the appropriate coolant.

\n2. Attach the eyeshield assembly(C) to the wheel guard using a flat washer(l)
\nand eyeshield knob(H).
\nNOTE: The eyeshield assembly w\/ magnifier mounts on the left side.
\n\u25a0 WARNING: The use of attachment or accessories from other types of
\ngrinder might be hazardous and could cause serious personal injury.
\nMOUNTING WORK REST(Fig. 5)
\n1. Turn off and unplug the grinder
\n2. Using the carriage bolt(F), flat
\nwasher(l) and tool rest knob(G),
\nattach the tool rest(E) to the
\ninside of the wheel guard as shown.
\nNOTE: The grooved tool rest mounts on the left side.
\nNOTE: Adjust the distance between the wheel and the tool rest to maintain
\n1\/16 in. or less separation as the diameter of the wheel decreases with use.
\nAwARNING: Always make sure your bench grinder is securely mounted to a
\nworkbench. Failure to do so could result in an accident or possibly serious
\npersonal injury.
\nMOUNTING GRINDER TO WORKBENCH (Fig.6)
\nIf grinder is to be used in a
\npermanent location, it should be
\nfastened securely to a firm supporting
\nsurface, such as a workbench with
\nbolts.
\nNOTE: Hardware not included.
\n1. Turn off and unplug the grinder
\n2. Mark the position of the four
\nmounting holes provided in the
\nbase of the machine on the
\nworkbench.
\n3. Drill a hole at each of the marked positions.

\nAwARNING: Keep the extension cord clear of the working area. Position
\nthe cord so that it will not get caught on lumber, tools or other obstructions
\nwhile you are working with a power tool. Failure to do so can result in serious
\npersonal injury.
\nAwARNING: Check extension cords before each use. If damaged replace
\nimmediately. Never use tool with a damaged cord since touching the damaged
\narea could cause electrical shock resulting in serious injury.
\nELECTRICAL CONNECTION
\nThis tool is powered by a precision built electric motor. It should be connected
\nto a power supply that is 120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only (normal household current).
\nDo not operate this tool on direct current (DC). A substantial voltage drop will
\ncause a loss of power and the motor will overheat. If the grinder does not
\noperate when plugged into an outlet, double check the power supply.
\nSPEED AND WIRING
\nThe no-load speed of this tool is approximately 3560 rpm. This speed is not
\nconstant and decreases under a load or with lower voltage. For voltage, the
\nwiring in a shop is as important as the motor\u2019s horsepower rating. A line
\nintended only for lights cannot properly carry a power tool motor. Wire that is
\nheavy enough for a short distance will be too light for a greater distance. A line
\nthat can support one power tool may not be able to support two or three tools.
\nGROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
\n1. All grounded, cord-connected tools:
\n*\/ In the event of a malfunction or breakdown,
\ngrounding provides a path of least
\nresistance for electric current to reduce the
\nrisk of electric shock. This tool is equipped
\nwith an electric cord having an equipmentgrounding
\nconductor and a grounding plug.
\nThe plug must be plugged into a matching
\noutlet that is properly installed and
\ngrounded in accordance with all local codes
\nand ordinances.
\nDo not modify the plug provided. If it will not fit the outlet, have the proper
\noutlet installed by a qualified electrician.

\n\u00ab\/ Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result
\nin a risk of electric shock. The conductor with insulation having an outer
\nsurface that is green with or without yellow stripes is the equipmentgrounding
\nconductor. If repair or replacement of the electric cord or plug
\nis necessary, do not connect the equipment-grounding conductor to a live
\nterminal.
\n\u00ab\/ Check with a qualified electrician or service personnel if the grounding
\ninstructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the
\ntool is properly grounded.
\nRepair or replace a damaged or worn cord immediately.
