ALWAYS stop the drill before removing<br \/>\nscrap pieces from the table.<br \/>\n11 . USE CLAMPS or a vise to secure a work<br \/>\npiece to the table. This will prevent the work<br \/>\npiece from rotating with the drill bit.<br \/>\n12. DO NOT wear gloves when operating a<br \/>\ndrill press.<br \/>\n13. BEFORE LEAVING THE MACHINE, SHUT<br \/>\nTHE POWER OFF, remove the drill bit and<br \/>\nclean the table.<br \/>\n14. SET THE DRILL PRESS to the speed that<br \/>\nis appropriate for the material being drilled.<br \/>\n15. SHOULD any part of your bench drill press<br \/>\nbe missing, damaged, or any electrical<br \/>\ncomponent fail to perform properly, shut the<br \/>\npower OFF and unplug the drill press. Replace<br \/>\nmissing, damaged, or failed parts before<br \/>\nresuming operation.<br \/>\nGROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS<br \/>\n1. IN THE EVENT OF A MALFUNCTION OR<br \/>\nBREAKDOWN, grounding provid13s the path of<br \/>\nleast resistance for electric current and reduces<br \/>\nthe risk of electric shock. Protect y~ur<br \/>\nextension cords from sharp obJects, excessive<br \/>\nheat and damp or wet areas.<br \/>\nUse a separate electrical circuit for you~ tools.<br \/>\nThis circuit must not be less than #12 wire and<br \/>\nshould be protected with a 15 A time-delayed<br \/>\nfuse. Before connecting the motor to the power<br \/>\nline, make sure the switch is in the OFF<br \/>\nposition and the electric current is rated the<br \/>\nsame as the current stamped on the motor<br \/>\nnameplate. FAILURE TO DO THIS COULD<br \/>\nRESULT IN PERSONAL INJURV.<br \/>\nTo drill a hole:<br \/>\n1. Mark where. you want to drill in workpiece by<br \/>\nusing a centre\u00b7 punch or a sharp nail or tum ON<br \/>\nLaser Line to mark drilling point.<br \/>\n2. Before turning ON the bench drill press, tum<br \/>\nthe feed handles \u00b7to bring the drill bit down. Line<br \/>\nthe drill bit tip up- with the mark. Turn ON the bench drill press and pull down<br \/>\non the feed handles with appropriate force<br \/>\nneeded to allow the drill bit to drill material.<br \/>\nNote: FEEDING TOO SLOWLY might cause the<br \/>\ndrill bit to turn in the chuck. FEEDING TOO<br \/>\nRAPIDLY might stop the motor, cause the belt to<br \/>\nslip, force the workpiece loose, or break the drill<br \/>\nbit. Practice with scrap material to get the feel of<br \/>\nthe machine before attempting to do any drilling<br \/>\noperation.<br \/>\nOPERATION<br \/>\nTo adjust drilling depth (Fig. 23)<br \/>\nThe depth gauge controls the maximum distance<br \/>\nthe drill bit will move up or down.<br \/>\nTo stop the drill bit at a pre-measured depth:<br \/>\n1. Rotate the upper depth knob (2) until the<br \/>\nbottom of the knob is aligned with the desired<br \/>\ndepth mark (5) on the gauge scale.<br \/>\n2. Rotate the depth scale lock knob (1) until it<br \/>\nmeets the lower depth scale knob (2). The chuck<br \/>\nwill stop after travelling downward to the selected<br \/>\ndistance.<br \/>\nTo adjust quill (return) height (Fig. 23)<br \/>\nTo adjust the upward distance the quill (shaft that<br \/>\nmoves up and down) can travel:<br \/>\n1. Turn the feed handles until the quill is at the<br \/>\ndesired height and hold it there.<br \/>\n2. Rotate the lower depth knob (3) until it rests<br \/>\nagainst the bottom of the metal gauge support<br \/>\n(4).<br \/>\nDRILLING BLIND HOLES<br \/>\nDrilling an unmeasured blind hole (not all the way<br \/>\nthrough the workpiece) to a given depth can be<br \/>\ndone two ways: using the depth scale method or<br \/>\nworkpiece method.<br \/>\nDepth scale method (Fig. 24)<br \/>\n1. Make sure the o (&#8221; or mm) mark on the depth<br \/>\ngauge rests at the top edge of the metal support<br \/>\n(3) when the quill is fully retracted.<br \/>\n2. Put the workpiece on the table, and raise the<br \/>\ntable until the tip of the drill bit just touches the top<br \/>\nof the workpiece. Lock the table in place.<br \/>\n3. Determine the drill depth for this workpiece.<br \/>\n4. Rotate the lower depth knob (2) until it is<br \/>\naligned with the desired depth mark (4) (for<br \/>\nexample, 1 &#8220;) on the gauge scale.<br \/>\n5. Rotate the upper depth lock knob (1) until it<br \/>\nmeets the lower depth knob (2). The chuck will be<br \/>\nstopped at the distance selected on the depth<br \/>\nscale.<br \/>\nWorkpiece method (Fig. 24 and 25)<br \/>\n1. Mark the desired depth (5) of the drill hole on<br \/>\n\u00b7 the side of the workpiece.<br \/>\n2. With the bench drill press in the OFF position,<br \/>\nbring the drill bit (6) down until the tip is even with<br \/>\nthe mark.<br \/>\n3. Holding the feed handles at this position,<br \/>\nrotate the lower depth knob (2) until it meets the<br \/>\nmetal support.<br \/>\n4. Rotate the upper (1) depth scale lock knob<br \/>\nuntil it meets the lower knob (2).
