By listing the specific procedure and providing useful links for each state, Twist Idea hopes to ultimately dismiss any doubt and confusion that nursing licensure may evoke, and save one from the tedious task of aimlessly browsing the internet for information. Each page is based on current, accurate, and reliable sources that have been put together to guide and assist possible licensees in obtaining their license.

The purpose of professional licensing is to ensure that practitioners have met predetermined standards and qualifications that guarantee their competency to practice in the thriving health field. Additionally, nurses are evaluated by their approach to ethically serve the general public, while also safeguarding their health, safety and welfare.
With over 3 million individuals currently holding a nursing license in the United States, it is important to assess the skills, abilities, education and moral adequacy of each individual seeking to practice nursing. This assessment is conducted by the issuance of nursing licensure, either by examination or endorsement, to nurses who have successfully met the necessary requirements for obtaining the license. Interestingly, the nursing profession is regulated by individual states, which have legal authority over nursing practice in their jurisdiction. The scope of practice in each state is defined by state laws and regulations administered by State Boards of Nursing. As a result, each Board of Nursing has the authority to develop administrative rules that determine the process of obtaining and maintaining a nursing licensure in a particular state. Due to the differences, similarities, and variables in nursing license requirements in each state, individuals often face confusion when it comes to obtaining a license or continuing their profession in another state.
